Renewable Energy

ACES’ renewable energy and energy conservation plans include hydro-electric turbines at The Catto Center at Toklat and Spring Creek, efficiency and insulation at all sites, and ground source heat pumps (GSHP) and solar thermal where applicable.  In 2009 ACES installed a GSHP  to reduce electricity use in the visitor center at Hallam Lake (the visitor center and caretaker unit combined contribute 42% of ACES' total 2009 CO2 emissions). As of March 2010 we had already seen reductions in energy cost and emissions.
