Rock Bottom Ranch has raised Large Black pigs for the last several years. This heritage breed is a perfect fit for the Ranch because they are extremely docile, excellent mothers, and can handle the climate of the Roaring Fork Valley very well.  

Snowshoeing Well Into Spring!

A snowshoe program up Castle Creek Valley in April often brings out a “spring fever” kind of energy in both students and ACES Educators alike! Who wouldn’t be excited? ACES Educators get to share their snow science expertise with a group of 6th graders who get to “ramble out yonder” and explore the hidden treasures of the upper Castle Creek Valley, including the Ashcroft Ghost Town!

Around the Ranch
The only thing predictable about springtime in the Rockies is that the weather will surprise you. We have been seeing gorgeous warm days the past couple weeks, but yesterday it decided to snow again. And it is still falling 24 hours later. This storm was kind to Aspen Mountain’s closing weekend, where it dropped over a foot of fresh snow, however it was not quite as kind to our plans for planting outdoors.
